Why do we wrap gifts?
Now someone would argue why humans do what they do. It contains more psychology than we care to admit.
Gift wrapping is not just an act of hiding a gift into anything at all on special occasions, it’s more than that. It actually defines people, and what sense of style they carry. For some people, it’s a hobby or a favourite thing to do on holidays. For others, it’s a way to influence people in changing their attitude towards you, as proved by Mr. Daniel Howard from the University of Dallas. It’s because the colored ribbon on a box creates suspense and builds an exciting anticipation of ‘surprise’ in the recipient; and trust us, an unwrapped gift seems ‘incomplete’.
Moreover, in the 21st century, it’s a perfect way to show how you feel about the other person through the design of a wrap and how it’s been wrapped. Gone are the days when people used to wrap their gifts using bamboo fibers and rice straws. Ultimately, it has been boiled down to foil papers and etc. The beauty of wrapping a gift is that it can make any piece of wrap look beautiful with decorative adornments and embellishments. Whether it’s new year’s, Christmas or your loved one’s birthday, gift wraps are there to save you while making the other person happy. Also, sometimes you can use a spectacularly wrapped gift just to amaze your loved one after having a fight.
Do you know that the colour selection of a gift wrap can make a lot of difference? You can trigger a certain feeling or mood by using colors. Each color expresses how you feel. For example, Green is most commonly used around Eid holidays and Independence Day, while red can be used on Valentine’s Day. Similarly, light and bright colors can be used on birthdays. But then again, it’s not always about the day, colors like green, red, blue and black can be used for the guys, while pink and all the light colors are more suitable to be gifted to girls.
