The Goldfish Autocrat comes from Shahsons, Pakistan’s first pencil factory, founded in 1952. Originally sandalwood scented, this has always been the company’s flagship pencil. Though they’re no longer fragranced, the Goldfish is so famous that asking for a “scented pencil” at any stationery store in Pakistan will still result in one of these brown and gold HBs. And the name? It’s proof that not all pencil mistakes are worth erasing: the pencil was supposed to be called “Goldfish Aristocrat,” but was mistakenly printed “Autocrat.” Either way, we think it rules.
